COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM IN GUELPH

Our professional eye care team can arrange for patients of all ages to have a comprehensive eye exam with an optometrist in our store. A comprehensive eye exam is a thorough evaluation of your vision and eye health which includes a series of tests that assess your visual acuity, eye coordination, eye pressure, and overall eye health. They can help detect eye diseases and other conditions that may affect your eyesight so that they can be thoroughly treated afterwards. We recommend undergoing a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year to maintain your vision so we can detect and treat issues early on.

The Importance of Eye Exams

Regularly scheduled eye exams are important for many reasons for people of all ages as they can help with the early detection of eye issues. Early detection of eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy can prevent further damage and vision loss. They can also detect eye conditions where symptoms aren’t as obvious. Staying on top of these changes will also allow us to keep your prescriptions up-to-date, and improve your vision and overall quality of life. Additionally, if you are a senior 65+ or have been diagnosed with diabetes or any other major eye disease, OHIP will cover your eye exams.

Should Children Undergo Eye Exams Regularly?

Did you know that even toddlers and children should have their eyes examined regularly? The Ontario Association of Optometrists recommends that every child have their first eye exam at 6 months of age, again at 2-3 years old, and subsequently thereafter. Not only can eye exams for toddlers ensure their visual development is on track, but any issues can also be addressed and treated early to prevent long-term vision problems.

The same can be said for older children, especially if they’ll be going to school. Many classroom lessons are visual-based, so it’s recommended for children to undergo eye exams before the start of a new school year. OHIP will also cover eye exams for children 19 years of age and under.

Signs That Indicate You May Need Glasses

If your child is showing the following signs, it’s important to have them undergo an eye exam to determine if they need glasses:

For adults, some symptoms are similar, but you may also experience the following:

If you or your child are experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s important to book an eye exam right away. The sooner you receive the care you need and deserve, the sooner you can improve your vision and see the world confidently again.

What A Comprehensive Eye Exam Will Include

There are several components involved in a comprehensive eye exam, including a visual acuity test which measures how well you can see at various distances, a refraction test which involves looking through a phoropter to determine your precise eyeglass prescription, an evaluation that will determine if there are any signs of disease, an assessment of eye muscles and coordination to test how well your eyes work together and how your eye muscles function, the evaluation of peripheral vision which checks your ability to see objects in your side vision, and measuring your eye pressure with a tonometer to measure the pressure inside your eyes, which can help detect glaucoma. We’ll walk you through each step during your exam and explain them in more detail so you can stay well-informed about your eye health and make the best decisions for you.
